The 33-year-old Secretary rank IAS officer within the Dadra and Nagar Haveli Union Territory administration said, he joined the civil services to offer a voice to voiceless, but his own voice was being stifled.

NEW DELHI—IAS Officer Kannan Gopinathan left taxpayer driven organization on August 21 referring to the disavowal of crucial rights to inhabitants of Jammu and Kashmir, and his own failure to talk openly about it, The Hindu reported. 

“We got into the service thinking that we will provide a voice to people, on the other hand, we ended up with our own voice being removed from us. during a democracy, let’s say Hong Kong or the other democracy, if the govt takes a choice, that's their right. But the response thereto decision is that the people’s rights. Here, we've taken a choice then we've detained everybody. they're not even allowed to reply thereto decision. that is perilous," the 33-year-old administrator told the paper on Saturday

In a separate interview with ie Malayalam.com an equivalent day, the 2012 batch IAS Officer from Kerala said, “I want my freedom of expression back. I would like to measure like me, albeit it's for each day .”

Government servants are prohibited by service rules to criticize government policies publicly. 

Further, within the same interview, he explained at some length why resigning was a crucial moral step for him. “If you inquire from me what you were doing, when one among the world’s largest democracies announced a ban on the whole state, and even violated the elemental rights of the people, I shoulda minimum of being ready to reply that I resigned my job,” he said. 

In another interview with NDTV, he clarified that, ”...Article 370 or its abrogation isn't the difficulty, but denying citizens their right to reply thereto, is that the main issue. they might welcome the move or protest it, that’s their right.” 

The secretary of Power, Urban Development, and city and Country Planning departments of the Dadra and Nagar Haveli administration was also disturbed by a “lack of response” from India’s civil society to the confinement of IAS official diverted lobbyist from Kashmir Shah Faesal. “Even when a former IAS officer was detained from the airport, there was an entire lack of response from civil society. It looks like most during this country are okay with this,” he rued. 

In the interview with ieMalayalam.com, Kannan, who has been an official for seven years, conceded that “I don’t think my resignation will make any impact. But when the country goes through a turbulent time when someone asks me what did I do, I don’t want to mention, ‘I took leave and went on to education within the US.’ It’s better to quit work .” 

In 2018, the IAS official snatched features when he was spotted accomplishing alleviation work during the Kerala floods. The work was voluntary and thus, wiped out a personal capacity. the knowledge apparently reached the press when one among his colleagues told the media about it.
