In India, movies are part and parcel of day-to-day life. Movies influence our thinking, action and behaviour to a large extent. Time and again, the Bollywood has produced many movies that revolve around the life of IAS and IPS officers. These movies have motivated and inspired the youth across the nation to join IAS and IPS.
For the benefit of aspirants, Jagran Josh is providing a list of – ‘Must watch Bollywood movies for IAS/IPS aspirants’. The list is given below.
1. Gangajal
It is the story of an IPS officer assigned to the fictitious Tezpur District in Bihar. The movie is all about how the honest cop tries to protect the ‘law’ and the ‘order’ in the district from the anti-social elements within the police department and outside the department. The movie also teaches you on how an honest cop should respond when greed and ambition of the ‘ruling class’ eclipses the concerns of common man.
2. Safrarosh
It is the story of a young and dynamic IPS officer, who dismantles the cross-border arms trafficking network. The movie teaches you three essential qualities of an IPS officer viz., better co-ordination with subordinates, optimum utilization of resources and ways to ‘handle’ political pressures.
3. Tejaswini
The movie is based on India’s first woman IPS officer Kiran Bedi. It depicts the trials and anguish of an honest IPS officer, who tries to break the politician-administrator-criminal nexus in Delhi.
4. Sehar
Inspired from real-life incidents and individuals, the film depicts how the State Police worked to tackle organized crime in the late 1990s in Uttar Pradesh. It shows the journey of an IPS officer, who played an instrumental role in bringing together a group of committed police officers to break politician-mafia-police-builder nexus by forming a first of its kind Special Task Force (STF) in Uttar Pradesh.
5. Wanted
It is the story of an undercover IPS officer, who befriends local gangsters to get hold of and subsequently eliminate an international gangster. The movie teaches you the importance of tact and braveness for an undercover cop.
One may say that these things happen only in reel-life and the real-life undercover cops don’t go through such ‘filmy’ experiences. But, this is not true. The current National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval IPS, is considered as India’s one of the greatest spies. He remained as an undercover agent in Pakistan for seven years posing as a Pakistani Muslim in Lahore.
6. Shanghai
The story revolves around a development project, in which corrupt politicians and government officials and local goons are involved. An IAS officer unearths the unholy nexus and with the support of the media, helps in building public pressure against the project.
7. Rang De Basanti
It is the story of six young Indians, who assist an English woman in making a documentary on Indian freedom fighters - Chandrasekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, Ashfaqulla Khan, and Ram Prasad Bismil. Inspired from the brave acts of our past heroes, they fight against the corrupt establishment.
“ज़िंदगी जीने दो हीं तरीक़े होते हैं;
एक जो हो रहा है होने दो, बर्दाश्त करते जाओ
या फिर ज़िम्मेदारी उठाओ उसे बदलने की।” of Rang De Basanti continues to evoke a sense of patriotism among the youth of the country.
We hope the above mentioned movies motivate and inspire IAS & IPS aspirants. The movies show the positive aspects to the life of IAS/IPS officers. They also demonstrate the necessary tact to deal with the different types of political, departmental and media pressures. No doubt, few movies depict IAS/IPS officers as corrupt and inefficient; but, aspirants should not take cues from them instead focus on the core values of the Public services.
